Israel Working

We haven’t yet found money growing on trees, but we do have a team of dedicated Researchers looking high and low. In the meantime, while it won’t necessarily be easy to save up a great deal of money working in Israel, there are definitely plenty of great opportunities around the country to support yourself while on the road. As with volunteering, work opportunities tend to fall into two categories. Some travelers want long-term jobs that allow them to integrate into a community, while others seek out short-term jobs to finance the next leg of their travels. In Israel, visitors interested both in short- and long-term jobs will probably have the best luck looking for work in the hotel industry, particularly in the resort city of Eilat, or in agricultural work, such as picking fruit and working in the fields in kibbutzim. Those more focused on the short term should also check for available jobs before or during major festivals around the country. American or European companies with branches in Israel are good avenues to explore for those looking for more lucrative longer-term solutions. Transitions Abroad (www.transitionsabroad.com) also offers updated online listings for work over any time period.

The easiest path might be finding work with an American or European company with a local branch. For more information on working in Israel, check out the migrant worker section on the Israeli government web portal at http://www.gov.il/firstgov/english.

  • Short-Term Work
  • If you’re more of a dishwasher than an au pair, or if you’d just like to work an odd job for a few weeks to fund another month of traveling, short-term work might be right up your alley. While it ...more
