Climate

The French climate varies by region. Though the center of the country generally experiences fairly moderate weather, Corsica and the Côte d’Azur —like their Mediterranean neighbors—are warmer and drier. Mountainous areas tend to be colder than the rest of France, while the Atlantic and northern coast receive the most precipitation. French summers can be hot and sticky, causing most city-dwellers to flee to the seaside. Winters are snowy in mountainous regions, rainy in Paris and the western and northern coasts, and chilly in the south of France during the weeks when the mistral, a fierce wind, blows through.
