Many national airlines offer multi-stop tickets for travel within Spain and Portugal. These tickets are particularly useful for travel between the Spanish mainland and the Islas Baleares and Islas Canarias. Outside of the peninsula, the recent emergence of no-frills airlines has made hopscotching around Europe by air increasingly affordable and convenient. Though these flights often feature inconvenient hours or serve less-popular regional airports, it’s never been faster or easier to jetset across the Continent.
The Star Alliance European Airpass offers economy class fares for travel within Europe to more than 200 destinations in 44 countries. The pass is available to non-European passengers on Star Alliance carriers, including ANA, Austrian Airlines, BMI, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, SWISS, TAP Portugal, Turkish Airlines, and US Airways. See www.staralliance.com for more information. In addition, a number of European airlines offer discount coupon packets. Most are only available as tack-ons for transatlantic passengers, but some are stand-alone offers. Most must be purchased before departure, so research in advance.
