Santa Cruz’s location is excellent, but many of its so-called “hostales” charge hotel prices. The narrow streets east of the cathedral around Calle Santa María la Blanca are full of less expensive, nearly identical pensiones, although the area’s cheapest lodging rarely shares the neighborhood’s charm. Because Santa Cruz is packed with tourists, it’s best to reserve early, but last-minute rooms are not impossible to come by.
