Few travelers spend more time in the transportation hub of Ciudad Constitución (pop. 35,000) than it takes to grab a meal and fill up on gas. Those who do linger will find a busy agricultural center, sparse in the way of attractions, built around the traffic on Mex. 1. As it enters the city, Mex 1 becomes Olachea, Ciudad Constitución’s main street. If you must spend the night in Ciudad Constitución, olive-colored Hotel Conchita 4, in the middle of town on Olachea at Hidalgo, offers spartan rooms with A/C and TV. (☎132 0266. Singles 240 pesos; doubles 310 pesos.) Olachea is lined with inexpensive taquerías serving heaping portions of antojitos (10 pesos). There is also a super-size supermarket, Super Ley, south of town, on Olachea 217. (☎132 6930. Open daily 7am-10pm.) Coffee Star, on Olachea between Juárez and Galeana, serves up espresso for 15 pesos and heaping slices of cake for 32 pesos. (☎132 7194. Open daily 7am-11pm.)
Bancomer, on Olachea and Suárez, on the south end of town, exchanges currency and traveler’s checks. (☎132 3777 or 3779. Open M-F 8:30am-4pm.) Banamex, on the north side of Ciudad Constitución, close to one of the several PEMEX stations, offers similar services. (☎132 0101 or 1411. Open M-F 9am-4pm.) Both have 24hr. ATMs. Other services in Constitución include: police, on Olachea opposite the turn-off for Puerto San Carlos (☎132 1112); Red Cross, five blocks off Olachea at Ramírez and Degollado (☎132 1111, follow the signs); Farmacia San Martín, Olachea at Suárez, has a list of local pharmacies that rotate overnight duties (☎132 0124; open M-F 8am-10:30pm, Sa-Su 9am-2pm and 5-10pm; MC/V); and IMSS (☎132 0388), Olachea 200, at Independencia. Postal Code: 23600.
To travel to and from Ciudad Constitución, Autotransportes Águila (☎132 0376), at Suárez and Juárez, sends buses to: San José del Cabo (7:35, 10:30am, 3pm; 371 pesos) via Cabo San Lucas (340 pesos); La Paz (3hr., 19 per day 1:30am-8pm, 196 pesos); and Puerto San Carlos (1hr.; 11am, 6pm; 52 pesos).
