Paris île De La Cité And île St-louis
Far from a party spot, the islands are a bit of a nightlife wasteland. Still, there are a few overpriced brasseries that are worth a stop. The bars are a lot more fun and a lot less expensive on either side of the bank, in the neighboring 4ème and 5ème respectively.
- Le Louis IX, 25 rue des Deux-Ponts (☎01 43 54 23 89), The place where the isle's men go to drink, probably because it has the cheapest beer around. As unpretentious as it gets in this neck of the woods. Pont Marie. Wine €3.50-4.60. Beer €3.80-5. Aperatif €3.80-4.50. Open daily 7:30am-8:30pm. Takes credit cards. Serves alcohol.
- Le Soleil d'Or, 15 bld. du Palais (☎01 43 54 22 22), Its name doesn't quite make sense, but and after paying this much for a beer on terrace, you'll certainly wish the sun weren't so damned golden come morning. The view of the sparkling Seine on a quiet evening makes it a nice place for a drink. Cité. Aperatifs €2.20. Beer €2.20/€4.50. Open daily 7am-midnight. Happy hour 5-9pm. Takes credit cards. Serves alcohol. Has outdoor seating.
- L'Annexe, 5 bld. du Palais (☎09 61 27 53 02), A neighborhood watering hole that remains as sequestered as possible from the dense troops of tourists in the areas. The €2 take-away beeris the only deal of note, otherwise you might consider drinking elsewhere. Cité. Wine €3.80-4.20. Beer €4.20-5. Aperatifs €4-8. Open daily 7am-8pm. Takes credit cards. Serves alcohol. Has outdoor seating.
- Sarl Saint-Regis, 6 rue Jean de Bellay (☎01 43 54 59 41), Less flashy than the nearby brasseries and about two inches further from the Seine, the Sarl Saint-Regis attracts Parisians willing to go the extra step and pay exorbitant prices for a cocktail, just to avoid the twittering tourist mob. Pont Marie. Wine €4.30-5.60. Beer €4.90-6.50. Cocktails €9.50. Open M-Th 7am-midnight, F-Sa 7-1am. Takes credit cards. Serves alcohol. Has outdoor seating.
- Esmeralda, 2 rue du Cloître Notre-Dame (☎01 43 54 17 72; www.lesmeralda.com), The most exciting thing about this brasserie is its romantic and literary name. Its overpriced beer and wine options are less exciting, though it does have a wider selection of cocktails than most places and is slightly cheaper than immediately surrounding brasseries. Takes credit cards. Serves alcohol. Has outdoor seating.
