  • Crocodisc, 40-42 rue des Ecoles It's the kind of shop that makes you feel like going out and buying cool sneakers to match your new record, if you don't already own a pair. Stretching across two storefronts, Crocodisc runs the genre gamut, carrying rock, reggae, Italian, sixties, North African, garage, psyche/acid, trip hop and soul. Listening stations are interspered between random objects. Records €10-20. CDs €8-15. Open Tu-Sa 11am-7pm. Takes credit cards.
  • Boulinier, 20 bld. St-Michel Are you old enough to miss cassette tapes? We're not, but lucky for you 40-somethings, Boulinier still carries them, old-school style. This multi-level music shop is your go to for records, CDs, DVDs, and yes, cassettte tapes. Unfortunately, they don't carry 8-tracks (sorry Disco Stu). Records €12-14. Open M 10:30am-midnight, T-W 1:30-8:30pm, F-Sa 10:30am-midnight. Takes credit cards.
  • Monster Melodies, 9 rue des Décharges (☎01 40 28 09 39), From Jazz to Ska, from Bieber to Ziggy Marley, Monster Melodies probably carries what you're looking for. The lower level houses well over 10,000 used CDs, while the upstairs sells those vinyl things your parents are always talking about. Open M-Sa noon-7pm. Takes credit cards.
  • Crocojazz, 64 rue Ste Geneviève 01 46 34 78 38 Everything is all about jazz here, from the books on Miles Davis to the DVDs on Louis Armstrong. With the faint smell of slow burning cigars and stacks of old records, Crocojazz sets the mood right. Extremely knowledgeable employees can help you find almost anything. Takes credit cards.
  • La Chamumière à la Musique, 5 rue de Vaugirard 01 43 54 07 25 (www.chaumiereonline.com), Mozart lovers will feel right at home at La Chamumière à la Musique. Come here to buy and exchange your classical CDs, stock up about books on your favorite composers, and stay up to date on the hot hot hot contemporary classical music scene. Takes credit cards. Has air conditioning.
  • La Dame Blanche, 47 rue Montagne Ste Geneviève 01 43 54 54 45 “Music is a gift.” This is the message that greets you as you walk into La Dame Blanche, and they certainly seem to think so. Be sure to duck your head to avoid hitting the low ceilings as you peruse their jazz, classical, and avante-garde music collection. Takes credit cards.
  • Born Bad Record Shop, 17 rue Keller 01 43 38 41 78 Vintage records from a variety of genres, including soul, funk, garage, punk, and ska, sold in a slightly funky-smelling shop (€10-29). You might have to throw a few elbows to get to the good stuff at the bottom of the discount bin. Takes credit cards.
  • OCD, 26 rue des Ecoles 01 43 25 62 93 OCD: Obsessive Compulsive DVDs. With 3 locations around Paris, OCD carries music and movies, as well as shows like Lost and Grey's Anatomy dubbed in French. Just when you thought McDreamy couldn't be any hotter.. Takes credit cards.
