Hit Paris at certain times of the year and enjoy spirited parades, crazy celebrations, and mouth-watering events. Paris kicks off every New Year in A champagne-drenched style, with fireworks off the Eiffel Tower and the truly spectacular Grande Parade. May is a busy month for public holidays (a.k.a. three-day weekends) including Victory Day on May 8th (celebrating the liberation of Paris in 1945), Ascension Day, Whit Sunday, and Whit Monday. Bastille Day on July 14th commemorates the French Revolution of 1792 with picnicking in parks all over the city, loads of fireworks, and an impressive military parade. Summer festivals draw the music crowd with the Paris Jazz Festival happening every weekend in June and July and the Fête de la Musique, a huge free music festival in June that has professional and amateur indie crooners singing all over Paris' streets. Paris is home to various other art and film festivals, but the fête that takes the cake is the Salon du Chocolat in October. Yes, it is an entire festival devoted to the finest chocolate in the world.
