Historically maligned for being “dodgy,” areas of South London are now hot spots for upscale dining and all-night parties. Once a swanky suburb, Brixton has been urbanized, showcasing the charm of its vibrant and maze-like Afro-Caribbean market and a variety of increasingly popular bars and clubs. Stockwell and Vauxhall offer pubs, while Dulwich and Forest Hill have quiet streets and offbeat museums. Clapham is experiencing a boom in nightlife and culture, featuring upscale clubs and pubs for lounging and dancing. Many sites seem to thrive on their remote locations in sketchier areas, so make sure to put safety first and travel in groups. Stockwell, Brixton, and the Claphams serve the area. For access to some areas, overland rail service from Victoria, Waterloo, and London Bridge is necessary. From Brixton, the P4 bus will take you to all the Dulwich sites.
