Chelsea would like to be considered London’s artistic bohemia, a desire rooted in the 60s and 70s, when King’s Road was the birthplace of the miniskirt and punk rock. Unfortunately, though, the wealthy Chelsea of today has no stomach for radicalism, which it keeps safely contained in the always-cutting-edge Saatchi Gallery. Meanwhile, King’s Rd. and Sloane Square are chock full of pricey boutiques, fancy chains, and bars and restaurants at which to see and be seen. Sloane Sq. to the east and South Kensington to the north will put you close to most attractions. Taking a bus is critical during bad weather; most run from Sloane Sq. down King’s Rd. on their way from Knightsbridge or Victoria.
