Beyond Tourism
The League, founded in 1888, is the oldest competition in the history of world football. In 1992, the top 22 clubs branched out to form the Premier League. Wembley Stadium, constructed in 1924 and located in London, is the home of the English national football team. Professional football stars such as David Beckham enjoy hero status in London’s streets and around the world.
Other popular London sports include Rugby and Cricket. Rugby is known as the “father of American football,” and its rules are a sort of mixture of North American soccer and North American football. (Ironic, no?)
Every year, London hosts the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, one of the premier sporting competitions for professional tennis players. London is also home to the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, a rowing regatta that occurs on the Thames, and the annual London Marathon.

For 52 years, we have published the world’s favorite budget travel guides, written entirely by students and updated every year. With pen and notebook in hand and a few changes of underwear stuffed in our backpacks, we spend months roaming the globe in search of travel bargains.
