New York City is governed by a mayor elected to a four-year term; Mayor Michael Bloomberg currently rules the roost. The New York City Council is composed of 51 members from different geographic districts who are also elected for four year terms. Although the five boroughs—the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and Manhattan—each have their own district attorney, they are still under the rule of the centralized New York City Government.
