Berlin Film

Finding English films in Berlin is anything but difficult. On any night, choose from over 150 different films, marked O.F. or O.V. for the original version (meaning not dubbed in German), O.m.U for original version with German subtitles, or O.m.u.E. for original film with English subtitles.

  • Kino Babylon, Rosa-Luxemburg-Str. 30 (www.babylonberlin.de), A spunky little independent film house with a commitment to quality films, Kino Americans and Berliners alike who flock here for pure film culture. Occasional summer screenings happen outdoors on the beautiful Rosa-Luxemburg-and an epic screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show goes down regularly here. U2: Rosa-Luxemburg-Pl. Tickets €4-8. Schedules change daily. Check website for details. Does not take credit cards. No wheelchair access. Serves alcohol.
  • Imax 3D Sony Center, Potsdamer Str. 4 (www.cinestar-imax.de), A big, commercial theater that shows new releases as early as you'll find them anywhere in Berlin. 3D costs extra, but can you really put a price on a dimension? U2: Potsdamer Pl. Tickets €7-13. 1st showing at noon. Last showing at 11pm. Takes credit cards. Wheelchair access. Serves alcohol.
  • Central Kino, Rosenthaler Str. 39 (kino-central.de), A small theater right in the middle of hip Mitte, this place shows indie American, German and international films, mostly in their original format with German subtitles. While the screens aren't huge, the theater makes up for it with style. One of the theaters is even outside. U8: Weinmeisterstr. €6.50, students €6. Open daily before the 1st movie, noon-3pm. Does not take credit cards. Wheelchair access. Serves alcohol. Has outdoor seating.
  • Arsenal, In the Filmhaus at Potsdamer Pl. (www.fdk-berlin.de), Run by the founders of Berlinale, Arsenal showcases indie films and some classics (€6.50). Frequent appearances by guest directors make the theater a popular meeting place for Berlin's filmmakers. U2, S1, S2, or S25: Potsdamer Pl.
  • Filmkunsthaus Babylon, Rosa-Luxemburg-Str. 30 (www.babylon-berlin.de), This haus shows classics like Goodfellas in the main theater and global art films in the intellectual Studiokino. Most English-language films not dubbed in German. U2: Rosa-Luxemburg-Pl. Entrance on Hirtenstr. Main theater M-W €5.50, Th-Su €6.50.
