Planted in the Baltic just west of Rügen is the elusive island of Hiddensee, called “das söte Länneken” (the sweet little island) in Plattdeutsch. Hidden as it may be, the sliver of land has drawn the likes of Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, and Thomas Mann with its natural beauty, and several ill-fated (read: soon-to-be shipwrecked) schooners with its wild waters.
