At Rügen’s northernmost extreme, the dramatic Kap Arkona—Germany’s only cape—lies on the charming half-island of Wittow (in the local Plattdeutsch, or Low German, it means “land of the wind”). Quieter and less accessible than Rügen’s southern regions, Wittow is carpeted with wildflowers and yawning fields. Near Kap Arkona is the tiny fishing village of Vitt, with 13 reed homes.
