Despite its pristine coastline and attractive centro storico jutting out over turquoise waters, Termoli (TER-mo-lee; pop. 30,000) is less visited than other coastal towns. While the town is home to many beachside resorts, most travelers—likely deterred by the high cost of a night’s stay—visit only briefly before an early ferry to the Tremiti Islands. If you stay, leave the beach long enough to see the duomo and the Castello Svevo in the lively Borgo Vecchio historic area.
The train station lies at the western end of town. Trains run to: Bari (5 per day 7:44am-9:03pm, €13-21); Milan (8 per day 2:20am-11:20pm, €40); Naples (11:24am, €12.34); Pescara (10 per day 4:55am-8:15pm, €4.40-10). Across the street, Via Mario Milano extends to Lungomare Colombo, a hotel-lined waterfront strip. Turning right on this street leads to the Borgo Vecchio and the port; ferry docks and ticket offices are on the breakwater past the fishing boats. Larivera Lines (☎0875 82 248) sends ferries from the port to the Croatian islands. For a taxi, call (☎0875 77 03 296). The AAST tourist office, at the back of P. Bega, offers maps, directories, and brochures for Termoli’s lesser-known attractions. From the station, turn right on C. Umberto I. At the galleria, walk through the underpass and to the right to the back of the building. Buzz the office, then take stairway A to the second floor. Ring again to enter. (☎0875 70 39 13; aasttermoli@virgilio.it. Open M-F 8am-2pm and 3-6pm, Sa 9am-1pm.) In case of emergency, dial ☎0875 71 591, the carabinieri (☎0875 70 63 40), or police (☎0875 57 15 51). A pharmacy is attached to the train station (open M-F, Su 8:30am-1pm and 5-8:30pm). For Internet access, try Adriatica 2000, V. Mario Pagano. (€3 per hr. Open M-F 9am-1pm and 3:30-9pm, Su 5-9pm.) The post office at V. M. Milano 7/b has an ATM. (Open M-F 8am-6:30pm, Sa 8am-1:30pm.) Postal Code: 86039.

Dining options in Termoli are varied and spread out. From the train station, follow C. Umberto I, turn left on C. Nazionale, right on V. Alfano, then left on V. Ruffini to find Anema e Cuore , V. Margherita 3, for cheap beer (€1.20) and pastries (€0.70). From May to Sept., the owner sets up an outpost down the street on P. San Antonio, where the beer flows amid outdoor foosball tables and a great beach view. From C. Nazionale, turn left on V. Roma to the piazza, and the cafe is on the end farther from the beach.
