If you’re a steak and wine type person, you came to the right place. Buenos Aires is legendary for its plentiful, shockingly cheap offerings of bife and wine fresh from the Argentine fields and vineyards, found at any of the umpteen million parrillas and asados. Vegetarians need not worry, though—there are also some excellent non-carnivorous options at every eatery, and even some restaurants that are solely devoted to herbivores, though these are harder to come by. Per the European roots of much of the Argentine population, there are also some stellar Italian offerings, particularly in the pizza department, with a wealth of small pizzerias doling out heavenly slices and pitchers of beer. On the fancier end of the spectrum, thanks to the favorable exchange rate with the Argentine peso, BA’s top restaurants in chic barrios such as Palermo are still happily within reach for the budget traveler’s wallet, This, of course, means that establishments considered inexpensive by Argentine standards are ridiculously cheap for visitors. For the crowd just looking for a quick cup of coffee and a pastry, the city’s incredible cafe culture is very European in tone, but with some touches that make it distinctively Latin American, such as the occasional tango performance.
