Amalfi Overview

Amalfi is the cool kid on the block—universally known, the subject of wild rumors, the one everyone else wants to be. Not surprising, as it's the perfect marriage of waterfront and commercial centro yet somehow escapes becoming either fully urban or completely beach resort. More than any other coastal spot, Amalfi walks the line between artificial and natural beauty—the Escher-like Duomo and Disneyland-style houses sit beside sparkling blue waters, jagged cliffs and lush green trees. This unique combo makes this town highly sought-out (read: expensive and crowded). To escape, head to the neighboring Atrani, 10min. away on foot, which offers cheaper options and some originality of its own. No, it's not just the copycat kid fauning over the hotshot, even though it's name is awfully similar.
