Buenos Aires Monserrat
Monserrat is by no means a hopping place at night. Most people who stay in the area past sunset end up in so-called “resto-bars”—restaurants
or cafes that turn into discos on weekend nights. Most others, though, venture across into San Telmo or one of the livelier
nighttime hot spots around the city.
- Bar Seddon, Defensa 695 (☎4342 3700). S Plaza de Mayo or Independencia. Just north of Monserrat’s border with San Telmo, Bar Seddon, with its black-and-white-tiled
floor and antique furnishings, seems like more of a cafe than a bar. But come here on Sa and you’ll find the place packed
for one of the live bands that play a huge variety of music most nights. Open M-F and Su 6pm-late, Sa 8pm-late. Cash only.
- Museum, Perú 535 (☎4543 3894). S Perú or Bolívar. This three-story club—one of the hottest in the city—draws a raucous crowd of fashionable youth from all
over BA to its massive dance floor with a mix of 80s, 90s, and Latin. Especially popular and lively are the Tu and W night
after-office parties, when professionals pour in from the business district and let loose. Sa cover men only AR$20. Open W,
F, Sa until late. AmEx/MC/V.
- Never Too Late To Par-Tay. Just like how Argentines like to eat late, they also have no qualms about partying late. Clubs don’t hit peak capacity until
around 3am.
- Cocoliche, Rivadavia 878 (☎4331 6413; www.cocoliche.net). S Piedras. Located in an old converted townhouse just across the border with Microcentro, this surprisingly small club draws
a local, early-20s, alternative crowd. DJs come from all over the world to pound out various forms of electronica for the
packed basement dance floor, which, with running neon lights on the ceiling, is much less epileptic than most other clubs
in the city. Mixed drinks AR$18-25. Cover AR$20. Open F-Sa 1am-late. Cash only.
- Big One, Adolfo Alsina 940 (☎4334 0997; www.bigone.com.ar). S Piedras. Alsina, one of the city’s most popular gay clubs , transforms itself every Sa night for one of BA’s renowned
electronica nights. DJs come to spin music for a massive, mixed crowd dancing away in this former mansion. Those who need
a break can head upstairs to relax on one of the couches and peer down upon the sweating masses below. Beer AR$12-14. Mixed
drinks AR$15-25. Cover AR$40. Open Sa 1-8am. AmEx/MC/V.
- Verona, Hipólito Yrigoyen 968 (☎15 5427 2962). S Av. de Mayo. Between Tacuarí and Pellegrini. With two dance floors, Verona is perfect for the indecisive partygoer. Salsa,
reggaeton, and cumbia play upstairs, while downstairs, people perform what amounts to step aerobics to electronica. Cover F women free until 2am,
men AR$15-20; Sa women only AR$20. Beer $10-12. Mixed drinks AR$12-15. Open F-Sa 1am-late.
