Germany is home to a diverse array of wildlife. While beautiful birds, alpine butterflies, and oodles of fuzzy creatures are sure to delight the wilderness explorer, a few other animals—notably bears—are less than cuddly. (Except for baby Knut, of course). Always pack trash in a plastic bag and carry it with you until you reach the next trash receptical. If you do encounter a bear, do not approach it. Back away slowly while keeping your eye on the bear; bears are shy of humans and are likely not to attack if they do not feel threatened.
