Germany Halt’S Mauer

In 1949, conflict between the Allies and the Soviets lead to the division of Germany into a capitalist and democratic state in the west and a communist Soviet state in the east. This separation was most symbolically marked by the Berlin Wall, which stood until the Soviet Union fell in 1989. One year later, Reunification began and the two territories adopted the West German constitution. Thus was born the Federal Republic of Germany.
