Germany Language

I can understand German as well as the maniac that invented it, but I talk it best through an interpreter. - Mark Twain

Most Germans speak at least basic English, but you will encounter many that don’t. When visiting smaller villages in the eastern parts of the country and Bavaria, carry a phrasebook and a bit of patience. Wherever you are, preface any questions with a polite Sprechen Sie Englisch? (Do you speak English?) When out at restaurants, bars, and attractions, a simple Bitte (Please) and Danke (Thank You) go a long way. Even if your command of German is shaky, most Germans will appreciate your effort to speak their native tongue.
