Camping at a state park requires a permit from the Division of State Parks, which maintains offices on Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, Kauai, and Molokai. The same fees and restrictions apply on each island. A camping permit is $5 per night per campsite, with a maximum of 10 people per site for a maximum of five nights. You are only allowed one permit per park within a 30-day period. (One exception is Na Pali Coast, which is $10 per person per night and has a 3-night max. stay.) You can apply in writing, by phone, or in person no earlier than one year in advance, unless noted otherwise below. The permit will be held at the office for pickup, or you can include a self-addressed, stamped envelope to have it mailed to you. If you decide to mail your request, be sure to include your name, address, and phone number, specify the dates and the park where you wish to camp, and give the names and some form of ID number (driver’s license, passport, or Social Security number) of all campers. For further information visit the Hawaii State Parks website (www.hawaiistateparks.org) or call ☎808-587-0300. All parks are open seven days a week with exceptions noted below. All offices are open M-F 8am-3:30pm.
