Honolulu County. Permits are free and available from the Department of Parks and Recreation on the ground floor of the Honolulu Municipal Building, 650 S. King St., Honolulu 96813. (Open M-F 7:45am-4pm.) They can also be picked up at any one of 10 Satellite City Halls. A conveniently located satellite is in the Ala Moana Shopping Center . Camping is allowed from 8am Friday to 8am Wednesday. Some campsites are open only on weekends and during certain months (see below). Permits must be obtained in person at least one week in advance but no more than two Fridays before your camping date. The permits are very popular, so you should count on showing up early in the morning two Fridays in advance, or have alternate lodging arrangements. One permit allows up to 10 people and two tents.
