Located on the southwest extreme of Panama, Chiriquí is the Central American traveler’s dream: enticing rainforests, endless beaches, and sky-scraping volcanoes. Choose your own kilometer of beach on Playa Las Lajas or head to the Golfo de Chiriquí and see some impressive wildlife. The northern highlands have striking views of Volcano Barú, the highest point in Panama. In these cloud-covered hills above the valley hold hot springs, lakes, and the elusive quetzal. Remote villages, only a few hours north from the provincial capital David, sit at the base of gorgeous mountain trails. Even if you’re not a hiker, Boquete and Cerro Punta are pleasant spots to spend a few days. After a grueling day outside, you can sit down to world-renowned coffee, mounds of strawberries, and locally-grown beef. Chiricanos are proud of their land and their origins, and it’s easy to see why.
