Mexico Border Crossings

There are 24 total overland border crossings to Mexico from Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas. The busiest port of entry by far is that between San Ysidro, CA and Tijuana. Though currently citizens of Canada and the US do not need a visa to enter the country, they will need to present a valid proof of citizenship (e.g., passport or birth certificate) and photo identification, and will eventually be required to show a passport under the WHTI . Other foreign nationals will require a valid passport. If you plan on being in the country for more than 72hr. or venturing beyond the border towns, you will need to obtain a tourist card . Though it is done, it is best not to drive into Mexico, as US insurance is not valid in Mexico. The larger border towns have parking lots from which travelers can walk or be bused across the border.
