Applying directly to a university in New Zealand may be cheaper, although transferring credits (and finding housing) may be difficult. New Zealand’s eight state-funded universities all welcome international students. Unlike many countries, New Zealand’s academic year begins in March and is divided into three terms. Massey University, (☎0800 627 739; www.maori.massey.ac.nz), has campuses in Auckland, Wellington, and Palmerston North. One of New Zealand’s state-funded universities, Massey offers a complete course in Maori language and visual arts.
New Zealand Film and Television School, P.O. Box 27044, Marion Sq., Wellington (☎04 380 1250; www.filmschool.org.nz), enrolls students in a variety of film disciplines. The program aims to provide hands-on training for those looking to pursue a career in film or television.
New Zealand School of Food and Wine, 63 Victoria St., Christchurch (☎03 379 7501; www.foodandwine.co.nz). Due to rising interest in New Zealand’s culinary specialties, the New Zealand School of Food and Wine is now offering a 16-week certification program in cookery and 3-month sommelier certification program.
