New Zealand Long-Term Work
If you’re planning on spending a substantial amount of time (more than three months) working in New Zealand, search for a
job well in advance. Remember that you’ll have to find a niche that can’t easily be filled by a local laborer, so work closely
with potential employers to ensure that you will be cleared for a work permit. Be sure to read about long-term work eligibility
on the Immigration Service website. Below is a list of resources for finding long-term work:
- Bunac, P.O. Box 430, Southbury, CT 06488, USA (☎203-264-0901; www.bunac.org). Charges US$495 for organizing work permits, job placement, and travel through New Zealand for Brits and
Americans aged 18-35.
- Council on International Educational Exchange (www.ciee.org). The US$450 fee includes orientation, a 2-night stay in Auckland,
airport pickup, a certificate of eligibility to get a work permit, pre-trip advice, and the New Zealand Work Abroad Handbook.
For US citizens who have been at school within the last 6 months.

- Monster (http://workabroad.monster.com). The international arm of the well-known network, Monster has job listings, as well
as tips on how to prepare an appropriate resume and cover letter for New Zealand employers.
- New Zealand Herald (www.nzherald.co.nz/classifieds). The online classifieds section of the Auckland-based newspaper has a
lengthy section devoted to an eclectic assortment of job listings.
