Above water or underwater, Thailand never ceases to impress. As the largest diving-training center in Southeast Asia, Ko Tao, is the first stop on a Thai scuba tour. Leopard sharks and rock “swim-throughs” are just the beginning. Snorkelers will love the island’s bays, Ao Leuk and Ao Thian , or the off-beach snorkeling in Ao Tanote. A daytrip from Ko Tao to Ko Nang Yuan also yields great snorkeling. The snorkel-savy hail Hat Karon and Hat Kata on Phuket as home to some of the world’s best marine life, particularly around the Similan Islands. Ang Thong Marine National Park , off Ko Samui, is made up of 40 limestone islands that offer phenomenal snorkeling and diving, particularly at Ko Sam Sao (Tripod Island) and Hat Chan Charat (Moonlight Beach). Two of Ko Chang’s outer islands, Ko Rang and Ko Wai , are brimming with coral and sharks.
