Travelers often reach Thailand by bus from Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, or Myanmar. A/C buses are usually comfortable and reliable. Other, non-A/C buses offer sparse leg room and bumpy rides. Inquire about purchasing tickets, as some buses require reservations in advance, whereas others sell tickets upon departure and don’t leave the station until full. Check visa availability before taking a bus ride; visas may not always be available at the border and in most cases must be acquired in advance in other towns. Most tourist cafes can help you with info and reservations.
