Almost every kind of personal vehicle short of a pogo stick can be rented in Thailand. Motorbikes and bicycles are the most common and often quite convenient. Always rent a helmet. If possible, ask other travelers in the area what their experience has been with local rental agencies before renting. Also be sure to test-drive the vehicle or bike before you agree to pay for it.
Walking around in Thai cities can be a bit confusing. The street numbering system (see below) and street signs are indecipherable to the uninitiated. As there is no official transliteration system, Thai street names are often spelled in multiple ways, even in the same city. Minor roads that split off of a main thoroughfare are called soi (alleys), although they can often be sizable roads.
