Thailand Language Schools

Enrolling at a language school has two major perks: a slightly less rigorous courseload and the promise that you’ll learn exactly what those kids in Chiang Mai are calling you under their breath. There is a great variety in language schools—independently run, affiliated with a larger university, local, international—but they rarely offer college credit. These programs are best for younger high-school students out of place among older students in a university program. Some worthy organizations (mostly in Bangkok) include:

Baan Phaasaa Thai (Thai Language House), 2 Sukhimvit Rd., Rm. 18-19 Ploenchit Center, Klogtoey, Bangkok 10110, Thailand (☎02 656 7719; www.thailanguagehouse.com). This school offers private tutoring or group sessions 3-5 times per week.
Berlitz Language Center, Silom Complex, 22nd fl., Silom Rd., Bangkok 10500, Thailand (☎02 653 3611; www.berlitz.com). This reputable language center boasts 5 locations in Bangkok.
Union Language Center, 328 Church of Christ Thailand Office Building, 7th fl., Phayathay Rd., Rajchathewi, Bangkok 10400, Thailand (☎02 233 4482). This center’s 4-week, 80hr. courses are taught in Thai.
