Near the Welsh border and the scenic River Wye, Hereford (HAIR-eh-fuhd; pop. 55,000) was for centuries the agricultural hub of the Wye Valley. Once known for its “whiteface” cattle and still known for its cathedral, Hereford now attracts shoppers to the upscale stores of High Town, a pedestrian area that hosts farmers’ markets and local entertainment. Good bus and rail connections provide a springboard for travel to the Wye Valley.
For 52 years, we have published the world’s favorite budget travel guides, written entirely by students and updated every year. With pen and notebook in hand and a few changes of underwear stuffed in our backpacks, we spend months roaming the globe in search of travel bargains.
