Buses generally offer the most frequent and complete service between the cities and towns of the US. Often, a bus is the only way to reach smaller locales without a car. In rural areas, however, bus lines tend to be sparse.
Greyhound (☎800-231-2222; www.greyhound.com) operates the most routes in the US. Schedule information is available at any Greyhound terminal or agency and on their web page.
