USA Glbt Travelers

American cities are generally accepting of all sexualities, and thriving gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered (GLBT) communities can be found in most cosmopolitan areas. Most college towns are GLBT-friendly as well. Still, homophobia is not uncommon, particularly in rural areas. To avoid unwanted attention in rural areas, refrain from public displays of affection. Let’s Go includes local GLBT info lines and community centers when available.

To avoid hassles at airports and border crossings, transgendered travelers should make sure that all of their travel documents consistently report the same gender. Many countries (including Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, and the US) will amend the passports of post-operative transsexuals to reflect their true gender, although governments are generally less willing to amend documents for pre-operative transsexuals and other transgendered individuals.
