Vietnam’s national parks, despite a rudimentary tourist infrastructure, are for the most part well designed for visits and encompass a gorgeous array of landscapes, from peaks in the lofty Hoàng Liˆn S£n Range to the limestone islands and coral reefs of Cát Bà. Accommodations include campgrounds, guesthouses, and rooms in administrative buildings.
Most national parks and nature preserves charge an entrance fee; some require additional fees to tour the area; some parks don’t allow any excursions without the accompaniment of a ranger (and another fee). The protection of endangered species may make some areas off-limits to casual visitors. Travelers should consider visiting with a tour group if they have a particular interest in a park’s wildlife—organized tours frequently have access to restricted parts of the park. Our park writeups note in which places this is systematic. Also look in the Environmental Conservation section of our Beyond Tourism guide for opportunities to work with park scientists.
