Vietnam Language Schools

Language schools can be independently run international or local organizations or divisions of foreign universities. They rarely offer college credit, but they’re a good alternative to university study, providing a deeper focus on the language and a slightly less rigorous courseload. These programs are also good for high school students who might not feel comfortable in a university program.

Vietnamese Advanced Summer Institute (VASI; www.streamingmedia.org/vasi). A program administered through the 12-member Group of Universities for the Advancement of Vietnamese Abroad (GUAVA). Offers a 2-month advanced language program during the summer at the Hà Nÿi University of Foreign Study and the Saigon Vietnamese Language School for Foreigners. Offered to 12 individuals selected nationally; proficiency in Vietnamese required. Coursework is the equivalent of a year’s worth of academic work.
