Vietnam’s climate is classified as “tropical monsoon,” which roughly translates to a lot of rainfall, a lot of the time. In the south, temperatures stay roughly consistent; seasons are restricted to wet (May-Nov.) and dry (Dec.-Apr.). The farther north you go, the more temperature varies during the course of a year. For a rough conversion of Celsius to Fahrenheit, double the Celsius and add 30. For a more accurate conversion, multiply by the Celsius number by 1.8 and add 32. To convert in reverse, subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit number, multiply by 5, and divide by 9.

Vietnam uses the metric system. The basic unit of length is the meter (m), which is divided into 100 centimeters (cm), or 1000 millimeters (mm). One thousand meters make up one kilometer (km). Fluids are measured in liters (L), each divided into 1000 milliliters (ml). A liter of pure water weighs one kilogram (kg), divided into 1000 grams (g), while 1000kg make up one metric tons.
