If it’s beaches you’re after, you’ve come to the right place. From Culebra to San Juan to Isla Mona, Puerto Rico has some of the most gorgeous beaches in the world. The best of the best is Playa Flamenco , Culebra’s public beach. With an enormous crescent of white sand, aquamarine water, and medium-sized waves, Flamenco is the stuff of Caribbean dreams. Culebra’s other beaches are equally, if not more, stunning, but a bit more difficult to reach. The many beaches of Vieques come in a close second. Back on the mainland, prized patches of sand can be found in southwest Puerto Rico. Balneario Boquerón and El Combate could all tempt you to extend your vacation. Luquillo’s Balneario Monserrate deservedly receives a lot of public acclaim, but it must share the spotlight with fellow north coast all-star beaches Balneario Seven Seas , Balneario Cerro Gordo , and Balneario Puerto Nuevo . In terms of aesthetics alone, the dramatic coastline of northwest Puerto Rico is incomparable, although the rough waves in the area make it difficult to swim. Almost any northern coastline drive will reveal spectacular beaches, but easily accessible areas include Playa Jobos in Isabela; Piñones near San Juan; and Las Ruínas near Aguadilla. And, of course, if you’re looking for one of the best metropolitan beaches in the world, the coastline around San Juan cannot be beat.
