This island knows how to party—on Friday and Saturday nights, San Juan’s nightlife competes with the best in the world. Traffic slows to a crawl as thousands of young sanjuaneros prowl the streets for the biggest and best party. Old San Juan , Calle San Sebastián in particular, is without a doubt the hippest scene on the island. If it’s big clubs you’re after, Old San Juan and Isla Verde offer anything and everything: salsa, reggae, pop, gay, straight, ritzy, and low-key. But San Juan is not the exclusive home of Puerto Rico’s nightlife. Ponce has a lively bar scene, and, during the surf season, Rincón and Playa Jobos host a good party any night of the week. University students liven things up in Mayagüez on weeknights and head out to the coastal towns of La Parguera and Boquerón on weekends. Only in Vieques, Culebra, and La Ruta Panorámica will you have trouble finding hopping nightlife.
