Puerto Rico Youth And Community
Poorer than any US state but wealthier than most Latin American countries, Puerto Rico is still feeling the growing pains
of economic development. An unemployment rate of around 10%, low education levels, and a housing shortage of approximately
100,000 dwellings are among the island’s biggest economic and social challenges. Volunteers can positively affect Puerto Rico’s
future by teaching in struggling schools, working as community educators, or constructing affordable housing.
