Consular Services In France

Travelers visit these embassies only when they encounter trouble and need assistance. The most common concern is the loss of a passport or a question about potentially dangerous local conditions. If you encounter serious trouble, your home country’s embassy or consulate can usually provide legal advice and may even be able to advance you money in emergency situations. But don’t expect them to get you out of every scrape; you must always follow French law in France. In the case of arrest, your consulate can do little more than suggest a lawyer. Dual citizens of France cannot call on the consular services of their second nationality for assistance. Hours vary; call before visiting. Visa services tend to be available only in the morning.
