Beyond Tourism
Traveling by car in Paris is only reasonable if your plans include significant travel outside the city. Parisian drivers are merciless. Priorité à droite gives the right of way to the car approaching from the right, regardless of the size of the streets, and Parisians exercise this right even in the face of grave danger. Technically, drivers are not allowed to honk within city limits unless they are about to hit a pedestrian, but this rule is broken more often than it is followed. The legal way to show discontent is to flash your headlights, and Parisian drivers are usually discontent (read: lots of flashing lights). A map of Paris marked with one-way streets is indispensable for drivers. Parking is expensive and hard to find. See Practical Information for info on renting a car.
