Would You Like Some Tea With Your Sugar? |

Moroccan tea looks harmless enough: deep brown, steaming, and cluttered with fresh mint leaves. But one sip could send you into diabetic shock. The amount of sugar used in each cup of tea is absolutely astounding. The photo above shows cups of mint and giant sugarcubes getting prepared for tea to be added.
Luckily, we came across a very different type of Moroccan tea that appealed to our Western taste buds much more. Hounja is a special brew of a dozen types of herbs and spices (cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and many more). It is brewed so intensely that after a few sips, your sinuses clear out entirely and your stomach feels comfortingly warm.
You can find 4 or 5 hounja stands on the South side of the night market. You'll find them by their enormous bronze urns of tea (see photo below).
