The Suite-est Sheets |
A stroll along the Ringstrasse is not complete without taking a step back in time – straight to the Imperial Hotel. Through a swash of Elysian Field lime trees, the Imperial oozes old world splendor – from the jacketed concierges with top hats to the deep wood and dazzling marble interior. The sparkling chandeliers accompany the slight smell of cigar smoke embedded in the lush carpets. Built in 1863 as a city residence for the Duke of Württenberg, in 1873 it was converted into a luxury hotel at the hand of Emperor Franz Josef. Its guests have been among the most famous (or infamous) and just gosh darn rich. If you have the €4,500 euros to spend on the Baroque Fürsten suite, you may just find yourself sleeping under the same sheets as Mussolini or Hitler did, alongside Persian rugs, drapery, and chaise lounges, and more chandeliers. Or if you can’t afford the suite-est sheets, you can have a coffee in the café for a few euros less, and try other (more budget-friendly) accomodations in Vienna.
