While Melbourne might have the monopoly on street art and a lot of the music scene and Brisbane has the best weather on most days, Sydney also has something valuable: a plethora of captivating, intelligent, and (above all) undiscovered hip-hop music. What’s better than an evening shaking your hips and bobbing your head to beats and rhymes that leave you smiling on the inside? I’m not talking in the cheesy hippy sh*t kind of way. We live in a day and age where “conscious” isn’t so much a descriptor as it is a requirement for alternative music to make it big, and the Sydney hip-hop scene is doing just that.

So why am I harping on about your moral, rational, and experiential imperative to check out the local hip-hop scene in Sydney? It’s happening all around you, but you might miss it. To see what I’m talking about head down to the GoodGod Small Club in Chinatown to catch bands sporting funky fresh style and top shelf auditory treats for not much more than the price of a fancy cocktail ($15). Travel is all about soaking up what a place has to offer, so try so with your ears.
