Accommodations in Brussels fill up quickly, especially during the week. The EU Parliament attracts Europe’s elite and the pricey, bougie hotels that come with them. Most student-friendly accommodations are located slightly north of the Grand Place and are within walking distance of Lower Town. This is definitely where you want to stay if there is availability, especially if you’re only in Brussels for a short period. Hotels will get more expensive in Upper Town, and the neighborhoods will generally get more unsafe for solo travelers the further south you get; try to avoid staying in the Marolles in the south or north of Botanique if possible.
