Der Wiener Deewan, a small Pakistani restaurant located in the 9th district of Vienna, saves your wallet, your stomach, and your faith in humanity. The concept is simple: eat as much as you want and pay what you can. It’s literally a dream come true, and the food is delicious to boot.
The selection isn’t your typical buffet of endless options, but does boast six daily delicious dishes to choose from, all conveniently written on glass slabs up on the wall. Bonus: there is always a non-meat option, which is refreshing for vegetarians like me. Vienna is a place known for sausage and schnitzel, so it’s sometimes hard to come by a good vegetarian alternative.
Given it's radical attitude towards payment and proximity to the university, Der Wiener Deewan is a popular place for students. I could sit there all day stuffing myself with lentils and alu gobhi; however, I'll relinquish my table because I want someone else to enjoy a place where there is faith in the idea that a good thing won't be wasted or abused. Der Wiener Deewan has not seen the last of me though—oh no—I will absolutely, most definitely be back.
