ImPulsTanz is in full swing now and if I didn’t already adore Vienna, this would be the icing on said sachertorte. ImPulsTanz is an annual month long international contemporary dance festival—yes, a month long! From July 12 through August 12 there are various performances, workshops and parties for the public to partake in.
Started in 1984, it’s grown over the years with over fifty artists and companies from Austria and abroad taking part in this year’s festivities. Every day of the festival in the evenings, after 10 PM, the Burgtheater Vestibül hosts a free after party. There is music, drinks, and dancing.
I went opening night with a new friend, and it was packed.
It was a refreshing summer night, and scores of young and beautiful people mingled while even more young and beautiful people danced. After a DJ set, Kompost3, played some live music and continued the party. I had so much fun dancing the night away with the international crowd. One of the great things about ImPulsTanz is that, because it lasts a whole month, I will have plenty time to see performances by artists that I might not have the opportunity to see again. I only wish it was ImPulsTanz month every month.
