So, let’s say you find yourself in Prague for only 24 hours. First off, you should be ashamed of yourself for rejecting an adequate amount of time in this bomb-shell of a city. Next, you should make the most of your evenings. How? Go make some Czech friends.
Natives will recommend the places that not quite as "touristy" or filled 99% Americans. In my case, I took a bar recommendation from my hostel, and through a miserable attempt to hit on the lead singer of the band playing at that bar, found the best night life of the city. These are the kind of places that King Charles would walk into and say “Okay, you’re right. This is pretty Czech.”
Top Three Bars to Visit Whilst in Prague
1) U-Sudu Bar near Wencelas Square: Forget your fear of acquiring a beer belly and grab a pint of Czech beer. The Czechs invented it; they know what they’re doing. And lucky for you, U-Sudu marks the spot for under $2 pints. The bar looks like a hole in the wall upon entering, but DO NOT BE FOOLED. If you do dare to enter, you will find a hidden labyrinth of 3 bars, live music, and a local, young scene.
2) The Beer Museum: Everyone will tell you that it is touristy and overrated, but even the Czechs will tell you that it’s worth it. The beers span 10-12% alcohol and despite the slightly corny atmosphere, you are likely to see locals swallow their pride and enter for one of their favorite 30 beers offered on draft.
3) Propaganda: The music is great, the prices are good, and everyone asks you to join their table. Go on a Saturday night for live music. Entrance is 50 Czech Crones, but you not only get a free shot upon entry, but this is a free, NOT STINGY shot. You can actually taste the alcohol amongst the fruit juice! Miracle!
Sightseeing is important, but always remember how beautiful the city looks in the evening--especially after a few beers. Don't let the sun-rise fool you! Most clubs in Prague stay open until 6AM for a reason. The only thing better than a 7AM train is a 7AM train...after going out all night.
